Quiet Book

20-02-2012 - ETA - I have added another post regarding my Quiet Book, with some more information regarding construction etc., you can find it here!

When I was a little girl my Oma S made me a fabric 'quiet book', each page having a different activity or activities designed for some quiet time! Recently Mum returned this book to me and it is still suprisingly intact, just needing some little repairs.
I thought this would be a great idea for Hamish in church as he loves to come along but he is a worm! There are plenty of quiet book ideas out there in blog-land, even some free patterns but I wanted to make something a little more appropriate for church, and I definitely wanted to use felt. I finally finished it this weekend!
Denim cover: A button close (my first buttonhole attempt would you believe - but I can't take the credit, my machine does it automatically - woohoo!). It is ring bound in case I ever have to fix anything (likely) or want to add more pages one day (fairly unlikely!).
Page 1 - My Bible Quiet Book title (no pic)

Page 2 - Adam and Eve: Adam and Eve are removable with velcro as are the clouds and sun so they can all be swapped around (I didn't think they were into flying but Hamish aparantely does!)

Page 3 - Garden of Eden: The apple tree with velcro apples and a little pocket to put them into

Page 4 - Noah's Ark: The animals can sit in the pocket up top or be put 'inside' the ark

Page 5 - Rainbow: Flower buttons on press studs that can be matched to the colour on the rainbow

Page 6 - Moses in the Basket: Hamish's favourite bible story! The basket can be tied closed

Page 7 - Jonah: He can be swallowed by the whale with a zip mouth (I added a string so he doesn't get lost)

Last Page: A pocket for a notepad and biro (can you tell I was a little bit over it by this point?! That also explains why there are no New Testament pages!!)

Finger's crossed it serves it's purpose, and the buttons don't end up on the church floor!

Wow Bec, that is awesome! It's a shame you had enough of sewing it in the end...otherwise I think you'd have orders coming out of your ears for such a gorgeous - and appropriate - book! Love Jonah and wish I could see baby Moses!

Thank you so much for "giving" us your craft blog.
I really was surprised to see the book I made for you so long ago still in one piece. It made my day! I am happy to see you making so many "crafty" things for Hamish and Lizzy. Keep it up. Am looking forward to your next blog.

How did you do the animals for Noah's ark? They are the absolute cutest animals I've seen so far and I'd love to know how you did them!!

Hi Nikki, sorry I should have posted a link - I based them off a pattern for finger puppets you can find here:

http://samaritanspurse.gotdns.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/12_animal-finger-puppets.pdf

Mine are double sided and then hand stitched together (not finger puppets). The extra features are also hand stitched. Hope that helps!

Oh, Bec! I have fallen in love! My daughter is expecting her first baby in 3 months, and I have been wracking my brain trying to think of a handmade gift she and the baby would treasure. This is it! Your designs are so nicely detailed that they will make this a piece of art and a family heirloom. Thank you so much for the inspiration! I will try adding Daniel in the Lion's Den & Joseph's Coat of Many Colors.

Don't quit your inspiring so many! And blessing them too. The only thing I would change is Adam, I am not sure he had a belly-button! Great job.
